Ultimately, we believe that boys join Scouting to have fun. But along the way, they will learn and gain so much more.
Troop 901 was formed in Fall 2001 by a core group of experienced scouts and scout leaders. We are dedicated to the idea that Scouting provides opportunities for youth to learn and practice leadership skills in an environment of fun activities. This is a boy-led troop, where the programs and activities are primarily designed and implemented by the boys, with input and guidance from the adults.
The moderate size and experienced leadership of Troop 901 allow us to give your Scout more individualized attention than would be possible in a larger troop. Your Scout will get the opportunity to learn at his own pace. He may not know yet what types of activities really interest him, so we provide a varied program for him to discover these interests. Troop 901 offers a two-tiered program of introductory activities for younger scouts, and high adventure activities for the older scouts.
In the past our activities have included:
Backpacking and Rappelling in the Hill Country
Camping on the beach at Matagorda Island
Canoeing in East Texas
Whitewater rafting in Tennessee
Indoor rock climbing in Houston
Summer Camps in Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Colorado
Winter Camps at Camp Strake and Bovay Scout Ranch
High Adventures at Philmont, NM ; Northern Tier, MN ; Seabase, FL ; and Switzerland
This coming year we will return to some of those places and try some new adventures. We will go hiking, backpacking, fishing, rock climbing, canoeing... and much, much more!
